Privacy Policy

ServeWith ("ServeWith," "we,""us," or "our") connects volunteers with local nonprofits and helps nonprofits find people to serve alongside. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through servewith.org and app.servewith.org, including the sign-up pages and dashboards we host for nonprofits (together, the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the Site, signing up as a volunteer, or registering a nonprofit organization, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

If you subscribe to our weekly email, we collect your email address, your zip code and, if you choose, your mobile phone number. If you opt in to text messages, we also keep a record of your consent: the exact checkbox language you agreed to, the date and time, the page you signed up on, and the IP address the signup came from. We keep this consent record so we can show, if ever asked, exactly what you agreed to and when.

If you sign up for a nonprofit's volunteer opportunity through ServeWith, we collect your name and email address and, if you provide them, your phone number, how many people are coming with you, a note to the nonprofit, and your answers to any questions the nonprofit asks. We also keep a record of each sign-up: the event and time slot you chose, and whether you were confirmed, cancelled, or completed the nonprofit's own form.

If a nonprofit adds you to its volunteer list, for example by uploading a list it already keeps, the nonprofit may provide your name, email address, phone number, and notes about you. See "Nonprofit Volunteer Lists" below.

If you register a nonprofit, we collect your organization's name, a contact name, a contact email address, your zip code,and, optionally, your website. When you submit a volunteer opportunity, we also collect the event's address, date, time, and description, which we use to match it to nearby volunteers. If you use the nonprofit dashboard, we also store the settings you choose, such as custom sign-up questions, instructions for volunteers, and a link to your own intake form.

If you reply to one of our emails, including replies used to submit or update a volunteer opportunity, we receive the content of that email so we can process it.

Cookies and similar technology. We use a cookie to keep nonprofit staff signed in to their dashboard. The volunteer calendar that nonprofits place on their own websites may save a small note in your browser, for example that you dismissed an invitation to our weekly email, so we don't show it again. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

• Match volunteers with nearby volunteer opportunities and send periodic emails about them
• Let nonprofits reach volunteers in their area

• Send you emails about a sign-up you made, on behalf of the nonprofit you signed up with: confirmations, calendar invitations, reminders, and notices if an event is cancelled
• Provide nonprofits with tools to manage their own volunteer sign-ups and volunteer list

We do not sell your personal information to third parties,and we do not use your information for purposes unrelated to operating ServeWith.

How We Share Information

Nonprofit Volunteer Lists

Each nonprofit on ServeWith has its own volunteer list: people who signed up for that nonprofit's opportunities through ServeWith, and people the nonprofit added itself. For these lists, ServeWith acts as a service provider to the nonprofit. The nonprofit decides who is on its list and how it contacts them, and we store and process that information only to provide our service to that nonprofit.

• Only that nonprofit can see its list. We do not share it with other nonprofits.
• Being on a nonprofit's list does not subscribe you to ServeWith's weekly email. You get our weekly email only if you subscribe yourself, for example by checking the optional box on a sign-up form.
• We email people on a nonprofit's list only about sign-ups they made with that nonprofit.
• The nonprofit may also contact you directly, using its own tools and under its own privacy practices.
• To be removed from a nonprofit's list, contact that nonprofit, or email us and we will help.

We share information with service providers who process it on our behalf to help run ServeWith, including providers who help us host our website and database, filter spam from our sign-up forms, send and receive email, convert addresses into map coordinates so we can match volunteers to nearby opportunities, and help us read and organize the content of emails nonprofits send us describing volunteer opportunities. These providers are only permitted to use your information to provide these services to us.

• Send account-related emails, such as confirmations and, if you've opted in, text message updates
• Maintain the records required to demonstrate consent for text messages
• Keep the Site and our systems working and secure
• Respond to you if you contact us

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ServeWith, our users, or others.

When you sign up for an opportunity through ServeWith, we share what you enter on the sign-up form with the nonprofit that posted it, and add you to that nonprofit's volunteer list. When you click a link in one of our emails or on a nonprofit's website, we record the click so we can measure whether our emails are useful and avoid sending the same listing twice. Apart from sign-ups and contact you start yourself, we do not share your personal contact information with nonprofits.

Text Messages

If you check the box to receive text messages, you will get messages about volunteer opportunities near you. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. You can also opt out using the unsubscribe link in any email we send you. Consent to receive text messages is never required to use ServeWith. We do not share mobile phone numbers or text messaging consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

Your Choices

You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. If you signed up for a volunteer opportunity, you can view or cancel that sign-up at any time using the link in your confirmation email. You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, email us at hello@servewith.org and we will respond as promptly as we can.

Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account or listing is active, and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping purposes, including maintaining the consent records described above. Information on a nonprofit's volunteer list is kept until the nonprofit removes it. If a nonprofit stops using ServeWith, we delete its volunteer list within a reasonable time after giving it a chance to export it. If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so except where we are required or permitted to retain it, such as consent records needed to demonstrate compliance with text messaging law.

Children's Privacy

ServeWith is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
